Russia and Saudi Arabia strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector

Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev and Minister of Environment, Water Resources and Agriculture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Abdurahman Al-Fadli held talks on the prospects for the development of bilateral relations in the agro-industrial complex.

Cooperation between the two countries is of a strategic nature and is distinguished by an active political dialogue. No less intensive, according to Dmitry Patrushev, is developing trade and economic partnership, one of the key areas of which is the agro-industrial complex. Thanks to the joint work of the agricultural departments, the interaction between Russia and Saudi Arabia has significantly strengthened over the past few years. Despite the pandemic, in 2021 the turnover of agricultural products and food between the countries remained at the same level.

Russian companies are interested in expanding their presence in the Saudi market. Among the promising export positions are meat, dairy and confectionery products. In addition, an increase in the supply of domestic halal products, the high quality of which has already been appreciated in the countries of the Persian Gulf, may become a driver for the development of trade cooperation.

At the talks, a high level of interaction between the supervisory agencies of Russia and Saudi Arabia was noted. As a result of their work, certificates for the main types of livestock products were agreed, which made it possible to intensify its supplies from our country.

In addition, the parties discussed cooperation in the congress and exhibition field. This autumn, Russia plans to take part in the 39th agricultural exhibition in Riyadh. The minister expressed confidence that this would contribute to the development of partnership between the businesses of the two countries.
